I think both statements are correct. Row-oriented storage has the ability to write data very quickly and in transaction processing applications, speed is one of the major features to have. Hence, statement 1 is correct. Whereas, column-oriented storage is best-in-class for aggregating big amount of data. In data-warehouse workloads, large volumes of data are required to be stored thus, supporting statement 2.
