Let there be m outcomes favourable to E and n outcomes unfavourable to E. Then, P(E)= m m+n ⇒ m m+n = 3 11 [∵P(E)= 3 11 (given)] ⇒m=3andn=8. (i) odds in favour of E= m n = 3 8 . (ii) odds against E= n m = 8 3 .
