Swap Space is the amount of physical memory that is used by Linux to hold concurrently running programs temporarily. This condition usually occurs, when the RAM does not have enough space to hold the programs. Now processor will look for data in the RAM and the Swap Space. There are different commands and tools available to manage the Swap space usage.
