This can be done using an AWS management console:
Right click on the instance
Go to Instance Life cycle and then on Stop
Wait for sometime
Now, click on Instance Management and then on Change Instance Type
Another way is to create a snapshot of the current image. You'll now see it as an option when launching new instances. Now, you can launch it as a large instance.
