(i) i.e. P (A∩B) = P (A) x P (B) = .3 x .6 = .18 (ii) P(A and not B) = = P(A) x ⇒ P (A) x [1-P(B)] = .3 x (1 – 0.6) = .3 x .4 = .12 (iii) P(A or B) = P(A∪ B) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A∩B) = .3+ .6-.18 = .9 -.18 = .72 (iv) P(neither A nor B)
